  • Long finned albino pleco with shredded tail

Hi - I have a little long finned albino pleco whose tail looks kind of rough. I think that when I first introduced him to the tank, one of the angels nipped at him (but not much). That's over, but will his tail mend? Or did he maybe tear it up himself on rocks or something?
I'm looking online, but I haven't found anything yet. He's such a pretty little fish. I hope as he grows his tail will heal up, grow back together, something. It doesn't seem to bother him, only me. -RC

His tail will heal . . . as long as the angel doesn't continue to pick on him.
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Thanks. I only saw the angel pick at him a couple of times, and that was right after I got him. I spend a lot of time staring intently into my tanks, so I'm pretty sure he's safe now. Fish are weird. I don't know if it was a pecking order thing, or if the angel fish was just fascinated by his tail.

          +1.

roxcarr, they heal pretty fast given a good environment. Melafix is also good in case of severe damage. I get the pond version from Petco which treats a lot more water than the regular Melafix at only a couple of bucks extra. I don't think you'll need to use it in this case though.

+1 on the melafix, what could it harm. Pimafix might be appropriate if it's a fungal thing. I like taking a homeopathic approach to things whenever possible. I always use a tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water too. Anyone else think salt is a miracle worker in terms of prevention and cure?
