After changing out the external return pump with submersibles and making room for another canister, I thought it was time to finish it on the cheap using unfinished particle board and brushed nickel hardware. I might paint it later if I get the itch, but I'm OK with this for now. Somehow, this tank is way quieter than the 125, which has a kinda loud overflow (I'll tackle later). For now, I'm so happy that I don't have to listen to that gawdawful racket coming from the old pump.

Yup. Removed the one bag from the Eheim canister in the 230 setup, where I think there was a lot of bypass and not enough reaction time, and put two 500mL bags in the sump right next to the return pump intake. A few days later I see a huge difference in clarity. Next step is to split that into 4 bags for more contact. Also sync'd the two circulation pumps rather than have them alternating, which may have also contributed. Tank sparkles now.
