Little of both, it dual project between my brother and I, I breed some or I search out for great deals, or/and I got few buddies in other states that can get their hands on fish we can't down here(without paying that huge mark up from LFS ordering them for me) and they send me fish. I am not sure if I am a full flegde breeder but I got many fish breeding, that is why there is so many tanks. Got to make room for the babies.
I also like my fish alot. It is my therapy, the only time my kids leave me alone, heck my wife almost leaves me alone as well. She likes the fish too, especially if they are making us money otherwise she could careless except that it keeps me doing something good instead of out drinking or anything else wierd. It gives me something to do I guess, plus I make a healthy chunk of change from it, the fish must pay rent as well. If they don't make enough babies they have to move out and free load somewhere else. Once I learned how to ship, man it open a few doors to make a little extra.
My albino ngara flametails are my newest project, I figure out 41 of those I should get a few breeding trios. I hope so, they costed me a pretty penny. Plan on mixing them with my regular ngaras as well.
I buy and breed fish I like or think look cool in my personal tank(inside tank, the only one allowed in the house), I don't buy fish that are what you call the in or the hot fish, I get things I like and if they breed cool and then I try to pawn off babies to others. Heck at one point my inside tank was nothing but male red empress and that looked cool to me, but the HAS and everyone else in Houston couldn't stand me about a year and half ago, my breeding trio made about 800 fry and well I tried to help everyone else have a red empress or two. One auction I sold like a 100 of them and man I think everyone left with some. So if you bought any red empress at the HAS auctions last year, 90% sure that it was my fault they got them. I couldn't give them away at one point, I was selling 4" males with full color for like 4 bucks.
man. lol. yall gotta ton of tanks. yeah well i have a pair of green severum that breed regularly. but i had been scoopin out the eggs and flushin them cause i didnt have anyplace for them. but my 110 replaced my 55 and i still have the 55 so i have decided to put it back up. My wife isnt real happy with me. lol but i told her that if i set it up again, wont cost a dime cause i have everything for it, and 2 when my severum lay eggs again, i can save them and then sell them. well sell got her. lol. but i dont care if i sell them or not. i just had to figure out how to get her to let me set it back up. Bye the way, when my severum lay eggs, whats the best thing to do with them to saveem??? right now i have a nursery kinda of sorts in my 29 gallon with some mix africans, but they are gettin big enough to go to the 110 with everyone else. SO when there out i wanna put the hopefully if i get severum babys in the 29.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
mrairportjunke - Even though it's not very likely, it's still possible for those eggs to hatch in our local waters if you flush them...Might want to consider throwing them in the trash instead.
Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I breed and ship to international shows.
But I don't have any stock for sale right now.

i was just curious.
how did you come up with that system. that is very ingenious. thats amazing. hell i am to dam un imaginative and creative to do something like that. wish i could but man i have hard enough time tryin to build anything. lol.
If you understand why cycling a new tank is necessary and know the dammage Amonia and nitrite peaks can do to your fish can uderstand why Bettas in small jars must have a water change every week to 10 days. This is the hardest part of rasing 100+ Bettas. This system is similar to a wet/dry system on big aquariums but has been modified to serve 100+ small tanks. Various IBC members have built and improved on this system. So, I took the best ideas from a half dozen breeders and combined them with some upgrades of my own (level switch in filter tank) and this is my 2nd rebuild. I even have some improvements in mind for my next rebuild.
