  • Is Silver dollar a killer?

I have an adult Silver dollar who was too jittery for my Angel fish so I moved him into the African cichlid tank with Yellow lab, Red zebra, Colbalt blue ... of all sizes.

He has lived there for a few weeks. Yesterday I found half of a 1 1/2" Yellow lab in his mouth. I don't know if he killed the Lab or if the Lab died of another cause. What do you think?

Silver dollars are highly herbivorous. I would think he was scavenging on a fish that he found that was already dead. Plecos do the same thing, and some people have accused them of killing other fish, when in fact, they are scavenging.

I concur. He probably found the dead fish and decided it would be a good snack. Not many herbivorous fish will expend the energy it takes to catch and eat another live fish.
