I added my second piece of wood to my tank last last Friday (technically, it's the other part of the piece that I had and cut in two, but I digress...). I took the "scorched earth" approach and removed everything from the tank during the water change and then put stuff back until we (my wife and I) were happy with how it looked. I wasn't planning on putting the two plants at the middle-rear of the tank back in, but she thought it looked better with them filling in the gap.
After a week of time to get used to the set up, everyone seems to be happy with it. They're all out and visible more except for my black bristlenose, who has become even more reclusive. He spent the first two days after the remodel hiding behind the big piece of wood. Now he's taken up residence in the cave, which is funny since he didn't care for it when it was on the left side of the tank. He used to hang out on the back side of the heater, so I guess in the cave is a slight improvement.
My albino ancistrus, on the other hand, will completely ignore it when people approach the tank now. Oh, and I'm fairly certain it's female; she hasn't grown any bristles yet, and I found what I assume were eggs in the cave when I moved the cave, and they were too large to belong to anyone else. Unless there's some other explanation for a group of 2-3mm yellowish spheres in my tank.
Bring on the comments/criticism.
