:emtthumbs: Great idea! That way, like Ellen said, you could start a breeding colony of feeders. Do you know if the "minnows" you caught were gambusia, or another type of livebearer? Those would be very easily bred. And plus, you could feed them really nutricious foods so they'll be a healthy treat for your oscar. :)

        Re: baby crawfish & minnows!

i use to catch the gambusia all the time also referred to as mosquitofish found in almost all the waters here.

i would med with salts and stuff for a week and feed them well so that they poop all the nasty stuff out.

If they have parasites, they're not going to "poop them out".

            Re: baby crawfish & minnows!

Most of my fish stay in totes outside during the summer. The frogs lay eggs in the totes and move in with my fish. I have been worrying about this and I have decided to start worming my fish annually as a preventative whether they need it or not after I bring them into the guppy house for winter. I know I should try to screen the totes but there are over a hundred totes and it is pretty hard to screen out the garter snakes and still feed the fish. Do you all think worming once a year is often enough?

Oscar food I think you found a good place to get some cheap snacks.

Ellen, actually after you medicate for internal pericites the only way to get all the dead things out is through the exretory system. This happens when you worm dogs.

Sorry I guess I should have been more specific. They're not going to just poop them out if you don't treat them. If the parasites are still alive, they're not going to just go away; they have to be killed. After they are killed, then they will go out through the excretory system, you're correct.
