    Wow! Interesting looking fish!

    The overall shape looks carp-like, but is that an adipose fin near the tail?

      I believe it is! I didn't even notice that...maybe that'll help me find out what it is.

        How many of these guys do you have? Are all the spots the same on each one?

          I'm still looking, but I asked about the spots in case they're variable, or different in juveniles, or something.

            There is only one up at HAW. He's in with a bunch of fast moving tetras and that appears to really freak him out. I'm trying to find out what he is to see if I can give him a good home or not. )

              That pic is similar, but does the head look different to you? Seems like our guy has more of a blunt snout than the Spotted leporinus.

                Actually, the more pics I'm finding of Leporinus maculatus, the more I'm thinking you nailed it!
