  • moving my 125g

i am wanting to move my 125g just to another wall in my room, but i was wondering, can i just remove like 90% of the water, to where theres like 3" of water?
then when its in place, i can just fill it back up without having to remove the fish and such.
would this be ok to do?

i have eartheaters and fancy plecos in this tank.

I've got away with leaving the substrate in and moving my tanks before, but I always like to catch the fish and leave them in a bucket to cut down on stress. I would imagine that the sloshing of the water back and forth in such a shallow level of water wouldn't be too comforting. I'd take them out.

leaving that much water in there it will be pretty heavy ... i'd take the fish and all the water out.

I can tell you that when I had my water mishap I moved my tank about 4 feet forward with it filled about 20% and its a 90G. But it was a pain in the a$$ and I had to move each side seperately in steps since I was doing it by myself. All this to say its possible and I lost no fish in the process. So its up to you. Get help and it will be easier and faster.

i will be having my brother in law help with the moving, and i will catch the fish out and put them in a bucket until the tank is moved, then i will fill it back up, and add the fish back.

              thanks for all the advice:)

Yeah boondocks website tells you what the glass average will weight -- but you know I made a mistake in the calculation it will actually be higher weight.. let me check it again.

Tank weight approx 350, substrate 100, 2in of water in the tank would equal to about 75 lbs based on a total of 8g of water left in the tank.
You are looking at 525 lbs to move.

                  Sorry for the mistake

cut 6 pc of 1 1/2 pvc 2 1/2 ft long. take out all the rocks and 80% of the water. leave the fish or take them out. 2 people can pick up one end and a third slide a pipe under it. push and tip, slide more pipes under and that tank will roll.someone keep adding more pipes. just like the Egyptians built the pyramids.

thats not TOO heavy. Me and my brother moved his 125 with about 3" of water, substrate, and fish still in it when he had hardwood floors installed. just use two guys and slowly walk each end a few inches at a time. just make sure you have somebody watching the glass so that it doesnt tip over.

well, we moved it no problem, but after moving it realized that there wasnt going to be enough room for my new queen sized bed

so we had to move it back
so ifor now, it will stay where it is
thats what you get when you let an idiot(aka my cousin)
measure the room you have to work with.
thanx for all the help everyone, it really wasnt that heavy, i had me, my brother in law, my cousin, and my brother in laws friend, and it went very smoothly.
