I would recommend either Endler Guppies (females can eat shrimp, but the males don't seem to) or if you are very focused on something that will ignore the shrimp completely then I'd suggest hunting for a nice school of Dwarf livebearers (Heterandria formosa). They are actually a native to East Texas and stay very small. It also depends upon what type of shrimp you are wanting to keep with them. Both of the aforementioned species will do well with Neocaridina types, but like much harder water then the Caridina. As to keeping feeders with them, I personally would not do it as it would just exascerbate water quality issues.

You're better off buying some seafood at the market to feed it to them.

To breed any kind of feeders, grow them out and what not in time to feed your fish they'd starve and eat each other.

Mouthbrooders... once they get going they are really prolific and since they mouth brood once they spit they're perfect feeding size.

                    tropheus, peacocks, labidochromis

lots of different Malawi/Mbuna/Tanganyikan fish are mouthbrooders and a large enough female would yield a ton of fry.

You could always get mosquito fish. Thats what I fed my peacock bass and petenia splendida when I had my 225 gallon.

I think it would easier and faster to just go net a ton from the bayou and just qt and gut load them.

Yup. Thats exactly what I did at Texas A&M golfcourse when I was there. Caught hundreds in one scoop. Better in the warmer months. Never had any to breed, but I never had to buy food. Oscars aren't picky eaters. I bet it'll be more fun to feed it some crayfish and wild stuff. I used to find geckos and put them in the tank, sit back and watch them go crazy.

There's tons of crawfish in my bayou... I would feed them that. There's a bunch of small birds nesting under the bridges too and baby bird would fill them up a lot faster.
