The Synodontis Eupterus Catfish is also known as the Featherfin Squeaker and is from the rivers and lakes of Africa. It is a wide-bodied catfish and is pale in coloration with many black spots. This species is also known as an upside-down catfish, as it will hang in an inverted position.

Many Synodontis are referred to as upside down catfish as they readily/occasionally exhibit this behavior as well as an Asian Bagrid that rarely appears in the hobby. The family is widespread and identification of specific species can be difficult without proper information and reference materials. Planet Catfish is an excellent source if you are hunting for a proper identification. It is possible that some hybrids exist within the hobby.

The RCS are small enough for the fish to eat and the fish love live food. My wife fish Limon & Lime (2 feg.8 puffers) they love the RCS. But they would be a treat to any fish I would think.

The syno's do sit upside down but do not swim that way. They swim right side up...

I got 6 from petsmart. they had them for $1.00. they didn't last a week. and there is lots of cover. My big angel doesn't like guppies or neons but will chase down an endler. he like the rcs too.

I've kept my tanks crystal clear without purigen, the purigen reactor is cause I have too many fish in the tank along with my puffer and my turtle.

the nigriventris is one I would look for when someone mentions upsidedown cat.

i have always called upside-down catfish s.nigriventris (sp?), i wasnt familiar with eupterus and had to look them up...plenty of google info out there. they are pretty cool! i have seen troys tanks and these fish are really nice. all of his tanks are crystal clear and i didnt even see purigen reactors around! his bamboo shrimp colony was outstanding too.
