First, what right does Anyone have to give anyone else crap about what kind of fish they keep. At least he's actually interested in his fish and they aren't just a status symbol for him so he can go around bragging about how much he paid for his "special wild caught fish"! Newsflash, many people on here own or have owned blood parrots. they are actually very cool fish to keep with typical sa/ca cichlid personality.Haiku's are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense

I see both sides of the Spectrum, I have had Hybrids before and also top notch Breeds. It is not wrong to Breed Hybrids in your home (use them as feeders in my Eyes ^^). Parrot Males shoot blanks so they can't reproduce which man is about to change by injecting hormones into them so they wont shoot blanks. All these things are wrong in my eyes. If the fish you keep get jiggy with it in your mixed tank, so be it. As long as they are never released into the wild waters there really is no harm. No one should have the right to tell others what to keep, as that is their choice. Much love from Dallas!Mpimbwe Karema

There will always be people who see fish as just fish and want as much color out of them as possible. To be honest, when I tell clients about how horrible parrots are...most realize why I use severums instead. Parrots and Flowerhorns alike are horrible for the hobby...but there is a large market for both, so they will continue with their practices. Can we at least ALL admit that blood parrots are in fact man made hybrids...this is NOT a true species and DOES NOT live in the wild. Secondly, I dont think that "wild fish" are status symbols...I just think that as hobbyist we should care about true species of fish and not just colors in an aquarium. I would go as far as to say that most wild fish are bought in order to recreate the natural environment in someones own house/business. I think that Wild fish are good for the hobby as long as they are not being overfished in their habitat...they help keep strong blood lines, which in return keeps healthy fry in the aquarium.250gallon-Wild Angels, community

I agree that periodic introduction of wild stocks can help strengthen blood lines. However, there is no way to practically reproduce the conditions which benthic species like frontosas live so the arguement that people purchase wild fish to recreate a natural environment doesn't hold water.Originally posted by newb View PostThere will always be people who see fish as just fish and want as much color out of them as possible. As for wild caughts being a status symbol... well, I personally prefer the wild discus to the domestics, but that's because I like the way they look. Yes, there is a little satisfaction in being able to keep a more difficult species, but we in the hobby often take on that challenge for one species or another. Some, however, do believe keeping wilds elevates them above others in the hobby... and say so daily.
MarkWhat are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

I should not have come across so aggressive, Matt. I take a lot of pride in this hobby and in my fish. As far as my fish being a status symbol...I would like to think my fish are...special. It took me two years and a ton of money to find em. Plus, they are the only colony in Houston...possibly Texas. That doesn't mean that your fish are any less special though. If it ain't wild caught

It came from the heart...Originally posted by jughead View Posthey front, where does "i really wish people like you would quit keeping fish" come from.i was gonna come to the ghac meeting to see how the pros do it.i was even gonna bring a few extra parrots i have for the raffle.now i dont feel welcome.........
People that intentionally try to destroy the hobby by selling hybrids really irritates me. Some hybrids help destroy the hobby (and IN MY OPINION) blood parrots do just that. You are always welcome to all fish functions. Not sure why you felt unwelcome. Come out to the meeting, bring your parrots, its gonna be fun. Maybe if you meet me in person you won't think I'm an a$$ anymore. lol.Last edited by FrontosaurusRex; 10-22-2010, 10:11 AM.If it ain't wild caught

no man!!!....okay lets see we are talking about the ones that come by the tons from asia right?????....OKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....now all you have to do is go to a website called PFK...its from england....they did this interview set up were they went through the trouble of finding the origin of were the bps come from....so they ended up in taiwan as the ground zero for the common bps...well they ended up with this guy ,well he has a huge breeding farm of them and he has the "technically" copyright of them as if it really existed!!!....but now he mainly focuses on king kongs/ingots/mamons....so yeah he got to nitty gritty....and the dude doing the interview asked the common question!!!....are the severum in the bps??...he said no!!!...cause it takes common sense to realize that the genetic/geographic barrier is too far apart!!!....when he gets to the true origin of the bps he says its basically just a deformed midas or devil im not sure which one...but yeah obviously!!!...they dont exist in this form in the wild...this was clearly something he noticed as an offspring deformity and decided to work with it!!...doesnt it make you wonder how the hell there are so many fancy goldfish varietys????....well they are not hybrids!!!....and basically a bp is the same thing as the goldies but just the central american cichlids version......now when it comes to the present!!!.....bps are everywhere!!!!...they went LOKO!!!...for them in asia!!!...including here in the good old USA!!!...now obviously now in days these guys will cross with any other central americans if given the chance!!!....and im sure most of you who have had central americans before along with bps will notice that!!!...so now in days you see black belts,synspilluma,trimac,ETC,ETC,ETC!!!....mixed with bps all over the place!!!!.....but in case you havent noticed they only crossbreed within genetic barrier!!!!....now when I said king kongs/ingots/mamons....that is definetly not just a midas or devil....those guys in particular do have a multi mix background!!....but no south american cichlid!!!!...as I stated before they are too a mix of different central americans!!!....it takes common sense!!!....if a severum would be able to interbreed with a devil or midas....then that means an oscar would be able to cross with a jack dempsey or a beani!!!....and guess what??....they are nowhere to be seen!!!....why???....you ask??.....well Ill keep repeating it!!!....but okay!!!....Im here to answer all youre doubts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Originally posted by newb View Postare you joking or being serious??? You honestlly think they are a true species???HALA MADRID!!!!

Wow...I'm at a loss for words. Can we get a qualified expert to chime in on this thread? That fish is not a freaking deformed devil. It may not be a severum, but the fish is a hybrid. I thought common sense, plus a job at a LFS would tell us that.If it ain't wild caught
