also, he hasnt been the most pretective daddy terror i have had, he doesnt do anything to protect the fry.
i can stick my hand in the tank and come right up to the glass and he does nothing, its the female that has done all of the guarding.
i wonder if i got a defective male

well, the male is being an idiot, he keeps taking some of the fry up in his mouth, and almost like chewing them, then spitting them out, but not harming them, he seems to be doing this with the ones that havent fully popped out of their eggs yet.

No what he is doing is he is cleaning them.. He is being a GOOD daddy. What happens is that they get "water dust" on them and this is how they clean the young for all the crap that is on them.

i was worried there for a minute.

i am running an Emperor 400 and Aquatech 60 and an airstone, eventually when the economy picks back up and i have money again
i will upgrade to a Proclear 200 with Mag 12 Return.
but until then, i am stuck with what i have.

im down to 31 fry, but they are growing well!
they are still in the main tank, and the mother is very protective, im amazed theres this many left considering they are in with a 5" Bala Shark, 4-Line Pictus, and Sajica Pair.
they all average ~4mm now.
they continuously graze on the driftwood, rocks, and sand bed for any little particulate matter they can find.
its really cool to watch.
they are eating well on crushed Ocean Nutrition Cichlid Omni Formula Flake, Hikari Frozen BBS, and crushed Hikari Cichlid Gold Pellets.
