Here's my version on a smaller (55g) scale. Just figuring how many fixtures I want to use, also have a couple 8000k and blue bulbs coming to play with setups. I'll be drilling holes in my canopy to mount these when it's all said and done

ah gotcha, the DIY emitters i have been looking at have closer to a 120-150 degree. i like the cool spotlamp look these give you though, the MH but without the heat and power waste.

Re: Another DIY LED project
I think the listed 60 degree beam angle is without the optics. With optics, it's almost a perfect parallel beam

i would expect even more spread then that with the optics off, hmmm. looks great though. do the HS seem to be working well enough? you normally spread thermal grease in between a heat sink and the source in order to get the best thermal transfer

Yeah, I was thinking about it & guessed that's what they were.

Re: Another DIY LED project
Thanks! I've been looking for a lowcost, yet effective lighting option. This it it! I like the plug & play aspect of this, easily able to add or subtract units.
Removing the Lenses helped your light spread better. What angle were they sold as originally? Just curious.
