Question on Eheim 2228

I have an used Eheim 2228, and it was working when I bought the tank it was on, but when I changed out the media and went to put it back into service, the unit is leaking from the top of the canister.

Is this a common occurance with older model units that have not been opened and cleaned for a while? Will replacing the gasket on the motor hed take care of the leak...?

What do you all think?

if its leaking where the motor assy goes into the canister part, its probly the o-ring that goes around the "head". sometimes they get pinched, and sometimes they get old and lose their elasticity, both causing leaks. hope this helps

Yeah, I was thinking of looking up the part number and see if I can find one locally, I hear this model was a decent filter??...

That's not uncommon with Eheims. Check with Alex, he used to carry the o-rings pretty regularly. If not, I would try City Pets next.

it is the o-ring

just changed two of them

got rid of the leaks

before i was using rubber bands, they do the trick

I've ordered the O ring from a local vendor for Eheim parts....would you all believe that Aquarium World wanted twice what I was charged somewhere else?

I'm having a new one mailed to me on Monday, hopefully I will have the 2228 up and running by the end of next week.
