    Heat Packs

    Does anyone know where I can purchase shipping heat packs locally? I have some fish that I would like to ship but I am in need of heat packs.

        I asked the transshipper who imports my bettas.

        Of course, given that I do ship about 100 + boxes a month,. I buy them by the case which is 240  40 hour packs or  120  60 hour packs. I prefer to use the 40 hour packs myself. If I am packing a larger box or shipping to a very cold place, then I will use 2, one on the top and one on the bottom for best heat distribution.  The only difference between them is the 60 hour packs have more iron powder in them. What I have found is that these can kind of defeat themselves as the iron powder most exposed hardens into a block around the rest of the powder that is really then wasted,  I think the 40  hour packs do a better job and weigh a lot less (which makes a difference in the shipping cost). Incidentally, those 40 hour packs do last more than 60 hours themselves .. I have timed them.

          I use the hand warmers and tape them to the inside top of the box...they get pretty warm so probably shouldn't be loose...think I bought them at Walmart last time.

            If you want to get the big ones or longer lasting ones I believe bigals or marinedepot sells them.


            I got a few 20hr pks from academy.... places like gander mtn and bass pro will have them.

            Make sure they do not touch the bag/water and test a few before hand. They also need to breath to keep heating.

              I called Heat Factory USA - they don't show animal shipping packs on their web page.
              But.....
              They never made a 60 hour heat pack.
              They are all out of 40 hour heat packs due to the extra cold weather.
              They are sending me a few samples of their 24+ hour heat packs for evaluation.

              Best source I've found so far is E-bay - buy it now 10 ea. 40 hour heat packs / $11 + $6 shipping
