may i ask your reasoning for NOT using a wet dry? you could make one for pennies for what it would cost for 2 2260's

      Air Stones, Sponge filters....etc....

My personal belief, an air sponge/filter is just as effective in a tank or even more so, then Power Heads.

        Re: 2250

        Mickey,

Your running (2) 2250's on your 210.  That is plenty of media capacity for a Tropheus tank.  But...you need to make sure the turnover rate of the water is in the 7 to 10X range.

        Eheim 2250 = 317 gph X 2 = 634 gph.

        210 Gallon tank = 634/210 = 3 X per hour

        210 @ 8X turnover = 1680 GPH.

You need powerheads to agitate the surface that total 1000 gph.

        In my 180 Gallon aquariums I am running Eheim 2262 (900gph) and (2) Eheim 2217 = 1428 gph 8X filtration turnover

        My other 180 gallon I am running (2) AC 110's and (1) Eheim 2028 = 1270 gph 7X filtration turnover

In both tanks I also run the Koralia Model 4 circulation pump 1200 gph.

        Mickey,

If I were you, I would run (2) Koralia Model 4's one in each corner, then have your suctions on each side of the center brace, and run the discharges on the sides or middle of the aquariums.

          Re: 2250

thanks for the info...i think i will buy some koralia 4s..... reason for not wanting a wet dry is that my daughter is into everything and atleast a canister filter  has a tight lid..... also dont like the noise of most wet drys i have heard.... just personal pref........ is there any reason to worry about tropheus jumping out of tank? i have an extra 110 aqc that i could put on the tank... just didnt want to open back of tank anymore than i had too.....
210 gallon tank...empty.....wait till you see what is coming

well, there are ways to address those problems...

            - put a lock on the cabinet to keep the kids out.

            - there are quite a few overflows to choose from that can cut back on noise, i have a newer model of the pro clear overflow box and it's much quieter than most wet drys out there, even with 1200gph through it.

            - also, if you route the intake line so that the water pours water through the side with vented slots versus over the top, that too will cut down on noise. adding more layers of filter floss can help cut back too.

            - with wet drys, you can have a greater bio load, more aeration and way less maintanence than any canister filter.

            just something to think about.

            good luck on your decision

            J

Yes you can put the AC 110 on the back with no problems.

I have not had too many problems with them jumping out except when I was transporting them, and from time to time I have had one jump out at feeding time, those pesky ********!!

I have my plastic backsplashes trimed to fit though in almost all my tanks...so I would suggest it.

                  Another suggestions.

Dr.Foster and SMith has MaxJets on sale.  The MaxJet 1200 is like $15 I think.  Then get the Mod-Kit for 2100 GPH that is another $15.

So for like $30 you got a MaxJet 1200 that is pumping out 2100 gph.

If your interested let me know, cause I need to put in another Foster and Smith Order soon.

Re: Eheim 2250 in a 210 gallon aquarium

They are having a sale till the 21st and the MaxiJets are on sale as well as the sure flow mods.....they also have the Eco-mods for the smaller MJ's and the mounting hardware looks a lot better.

Geoff, did you ever try the mod to the Koralia4? Still have the extra impeller that came with your sure flow mod kit? I was planning on using the MJ1200 myself with the mod but found out that they don't take well to constant on/off switching so I went with the Tunze's instead. When the new Koralia Magnums come out I'm gonna look into a few of those as well to try and create a big surge throughout my tank without having to go with the Tunze wavebox.

Re: Eheim 2250 in a 210 gallon aquarium

I never installed it into the Koralia 4 because the motor in the thing had failed prior to my attempt, and I was concerned after reading what everone said in the that thread, that it might make my other Koralia 4 fail.

                        SO..I chickened out..

Yes I still have the the extra impeller, but its the smaller one.  The Mod kit comes with a white and a black.  The white is for only the 1200 and it makes 2100 gph.  The black one is for the smaller ones, and if you use it in the 1200 it only makes like 900 gph or something.

If Derek has some used 1200's it would be better to possibly get those, and then just order the mod kits.

You still have the the stock impeller for the MJ1200? LMK how much you want for it and the smaller prop.

I was planning on keeping the stock impellers should I ever change my mind.

I dont have a problem if you want the black ones.
