Anybody use a canister filter with just cotton and not other media????? Is it safe? Will enough good bacteria grow on the cotton without ceramic?

Personally I never heard of it. But some people use pot scrubies from dollar store. I fill all of mines with bio max and bio rings

Khmer, do you use any mesh or cotton? Or just plain bio?

                Canister filter media

I'm currently cycling my new setup. Using a 2227 wet&dry with 5lbs of ceramic balls and medium fine mesh.

I've read alot of posts against using canisters on this forum, but due to space restrictions; I feel this is my best solution for my 30gal tall halfmoon.

Btw, i used this same filter with 6 different FW setups over the course of 10yrs, and have grown quite fond of it.

Any suggestions on how it can be optimized are welcome, any other input as well.

                Thanks guys!
