Just to add to the conversation, white pine wood is rated for about 4800 psi under compression if I recall correctly. Which means a square inch piece of wood could hold up my 280 gallon tank and then some if you can get it balanced on that piece just right and keep the wood from bending. Bending is the weakness for wood and thats where the extra pieces, width, and bracing comes in when building stands. But you don't need a lot of wood to hold up a tank. It's kinda funny to see ppl build stands out of 4x4 and double 2x4 etc. -
Looks fine to me. If you look at how Oceanic builds stands for their 180gal and larger tanks, you'd be surprised at how flimsy they look. But if they're good enough for Oceanic...Leave a comment:

if it were me, i would reinforce with at least a frame of 1x4s. there isnt much wood on the front and back to keep this from twisting, bear in mind a 40g tank will weigh over 350 pounds. of course, i tend to be over cautious with these types of things.Leave a comment:
