  • Please help with aquarium question.

Hi everyone, I just purchased a used Aqueon 125 gallon with corner overflows. On the top of the aquarium there is that plastic trim piece. The trim has two small strips of plastic that runs across the top of the aquarium. One of the plastic strip is broken across as you can see in the picture below. My question is that due to this, is the tank still structurally good? The plastic is very small and I don't think it adds to the structure of the tank, but just wanted to ask the opinions of those on here to make sure. If it does indeed impact the structure, do you know how I can go about to repair it?

    Thank you,

    Hangman

I think they are there just to add a bit of stability if the tan were to flex any cause out of all the times I have moved tanks there is never any real pull or stress on that piece and there is a lot of slack as well.

You could bond it back with some weld-on or just lay a piece of acrylic or something over it and drill holes to secure it.

yes, it prevents the tank from bowing out. over time that could cause a failure. best fix imo would be to replace it with a piece of glass with silicone.

So just buy a piece of glass the same thickness of the tank glass and silicone it in place on the top in its place?

same thickness but about 10" wide instead of the thinner plastic

Is there a specific type of silicone I should use?

Thank you very much for all your help! I'm going to order two piece of glass and silicone it to the tank under the area where the plastic strips run across the tank.

Then I can start my build thread :)
