Filters: What would you choose?

WOW! Am I learning a bunch here. You guys are terrific. I appreciate the info and opinions. Have to do some digging on the net and read up on these filters. Keep the suggestions coming.

Don't skimp on the filtration. It's the one area that you want top of the line.

Come to the GHAC meeting at my house on Saturday night. I will show you a wet/dry or 2. I just shut down my last cannister tonight and I'm extremely happy and will be for years to come. LOL. A can and a W/D would be perfect for you since a HOB is not a option.

Wet-drys/sumps do offer some advantages that tipped the scales away from canisters for me:

1) Hide all of your heaters, probes, thermometers, anything else that normally goes in the tank and sticks out like a sore thumb. Now, Rena does make some pretty good in-line heaters for canister use, so that should be considered
2) Extra water volume = makes it easier on the water chemistry and increases O2 saturation
3) Cost. A DIY sump can be easily, quickly, and cheaply made for less than the cost of a new canister. Home Depot/Lowes pretty much sells everything you'll need to make a basic one
4) My favorite: once up and running, the water level in the main tank is constant. No more hard water lines on the glass where you can see them!

Do both for best results.

Only downside to a wet/dry is a little noise but there are ways around that.
