Just reading through the forums on MFK and read a thread about this filter. Just wondering if anyone here locally has had any experience with them? Seems you can only get them on Ebay. I know everyone here has there own personal preferance. Eheim, Fluval, whatever. Again, i'm just asking. Never hurts to research.

I've seen sunsun powerheads, but never knew they made filters.

I have one, it's dead silent and runs well. The handles on the baskets are flimsy which can make switching the contents/cleaning a very delicate task. The in/out pipes are also very prone to breaking. They work well, but require delicate handling. I ended using some other filter parts to make sturdier tubes.

But, if you are willing to deal with the problems, the filter does run well. I also have an Eheim and Rena for comparison. They are much better quality wise, but the sun sun works well, I just know if it breaks I will likely have to buy an entire new filter.

The 190 I just got from Mike. I'm still leaning towards the Eheim 2262 no doubt. But, as I said, just doing alittle research.

Hey Astex, I assume your tank is not drilled since you are using the pipes. If your tank was drilled in the bottom. Would this filter work? Reason I ask. After reading a few post on the Box, I see that the Fluval FX5 would not be the way for me to go. Could cause problems with the pump. So on and so forth. Jhenry could probably better explain this than I could. So, Eheim is the way to go for me, I Think. Plus, I like the look of cleaner lines. I don't want stuff hanging off the back of my tank.

I wouldn't use that filter in a closed loop application. The only line of filter that inwould recommend running closed loop are the Eheim 2250/2260/2262 and no other. Bill don't temp fate

I'm going to say this and you might not like it but stop being cheap. If you want a clean bottom drilled instahl. You have to go with a Eheim anything else will result in filter failure or 190 gallons of water on your living room floor or wherever you place this tank

I recently saw a thread on another forum where someone used an FX5 in a closed loop . I'm sure that it works fine and I have no doubt about the power of the FX5.....but I would not recommend using the FX5 in this manner due to the pump being located on the bottom of the filter . Thus , meaning that the FX5s' pump will be more prone to collecting sand which is bad for any filter . The Eheims are the complete oposite . The pump is located on the top of the filter and when properly packed....there is little to no chance that sand could enter the pump .
