He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

      Re: Wet Dry Filtration Systems

All good links .......thanks ....I'll be placing an order soon.

Question, I saw at Aquarium World today, a Charcoal Activated filter pad about the right size for my drip tray, would using that pad be worth the extra money it cost or would it not be wise to use it there for this application?

The reason charcoal works is that it traps little tiney gasses in its pores.
So when it fills up, the carbon is not helping any more.
So consider it a throw away filter.

For less money, you can buy cheap charcoal and put it in the cut off foot of (her) old panty hose.   Tie it in a knot and toss it in the filter.   Remove it when you medicate the tank & toss it when you are ready to use a new one.

The filter pads is a scam! those things are nearly efficient as the regular stuff and it cost more.

            CF,

Not sure where you are with this WetDry right now, but when I had one a few years back on my FW 135, I found it best to trap as much particulate matter as possible BEFORE it gets to the sump.  So, I had cylinder-shaped foam filter in the back of the overflow around the stub of the plumbing that the drain hose or pipe connects to.
