MJ does this all the time. I have had this happen in a clients tank before...over time I started noticing fish dropping. Ended up just replacing the MJ for a Koralia

You may be ok without a heater, now that is has started warming up a bit.

Fish aren't grounded, so they don't feel the volts like you do. Stand on a piece of styrofoam and you won't get shocked.

If you have a fish that is highly tuned to electricity (knife fishes, sharks & rays), then you have an issue. Otherwise who cares.

Stray electricity and water are a bad combination.

Leave it unpluged and get a new heater tomorrow.
