  • Marineland LED 2nd Generation

Any reports of the new LED fixture from Marineland? I have heard rumors that a few have been sent out to be reviewed. I want to know what is going on. What are the changes, when can I get one, and what is the price?

I do not have a website. I got an email from Marineland about 2 months ago that stated the new light was about to be released and they are very excited about it. I heard from talking face to face with a few people about the light and was told a few had hit the streets. Just looking for info now.

Its a nice fixture. Very bright compared to the last gen. I was kinda disappointed with the last gen model. This one is a great improvement and they look really nice too.

Marineland just released information on their new Reef capable LED lighting fixtures to the masses. We first reported the Reef Capable light back in March and it looks like Marineland is finally ready…

From the info on the web link, it looks like all they did was up the light output and the price. I was hoping for more lighting control (seporate for blue/white) so you could set them to timers. I do not need that much light for freshwater. Nice light but a little disapointed. May just pick up the 1st generation on clearance. Could buy two or three for the price of one of the new ones.

I need one for my 60p!

"With a peak intensity of 130 umol of PAR at 12 inches"

That's like MH power right there!

If its the one I looked up this thing is to weak for SW. Good on a FW tank though.

Hope they are more penetrating than previous model. For 30" deep tank, just didn't get coverage. Seen and heard from people that have them on large tanks.

Confirmed, they should be shipping out october 1st 2010. There will also be a plant model, but it will come out later in the year (nov-dec. hopefully). The ones coming out are one watt. The three watts units are coming out later. Hope that helps. I will get pricing closer to the release date.

I don't know guys. After reviewing the PAR readings those light is really weak at deeper levels and does not have strong wide coverage.

Looks like a fixture for lower-light corals.

Peak PAR may be like MH at the middle and 12'' deep but it can't reach as wide or as deep as a MH.

Wonder why they just didn't use the 3w LEDs.
