Got slighly used XP5 without media inserts. What three materials would you recommend for the three chambers it has for Troph tank?

    Thanks

How you bougth something without know how to use it???? J/k
            top to botton
1 layer: 2 liters of ceramic rings (ehfimech)
2 layer: 2 liters of bio media
3 layer: 2 liters of bio media

also you need 6 filter pads (2 sets) for the sides of the media chambers.

That is a monster filter! One of my favorites for sure. Congrats!

I've been putting Purigen in ours lately.

not to highjack the thread, but what is purigen?
i keep seeing people using it, but what the heck is it and what does it do?

It's supposed to remove organic waste to control ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. I like it because it's rechargeable. When it goes dark, just soak in bleach and reuse.

Yeah, I buy stuff all the time without knowing how to use it. Trying to get my 110 gallon show tank set back up. This filter looked heavy duty, so I got the freaker!

Fishland sells it, so does City Pets....Aquatic World does too I believe, but their prices are a bit high there....

I set up my FX5's with top basket 2L bio media, middle basket 2L of bio media, then the bottom basket I use Eheim 2217 Blue Foam pads...three of them to fill the void perfectly.

I reall enjoy those filters. During my move this weekend, it was really really really nice NOT having to restart siphon on any of those....unlike all my freaking Eheim's...drank a lot of fish water this weekend...argh!!

                          Go FX5!!!!

                              dude i LOVE my fx5!
i have a 75g tanganyikan tank with 20 tropheus golden kazumba , 13 tropheus duboisi maswa, 1 gold occellatus, 1 callochromis ndole bay, 1 julidochromis maerleri, 1 clown loach, 1 red lipped botia, and 1 angelicus botia.
im running 1 fx5 with 3x sponge rings for the outer layer, 2x blue eheim 2217 filter pads in the bottom, 21 pot scrubbers for bio media, aquaclear 110 carbon bag, fluval ceramic noodles, and a fine peice of quilt batting.
thing keeps my 75g crystal clear, and ammonia, and nitrites are always zero.
                              plus the flow is crazy.

                              i love this filter!
plus like geoff said, its so easy to restart the syphon, not to mention 100x easier to clean then an eheim 2260.
