  • Second Canister recomendation for 72 gallon bowfront

I have a 72 gallon bowfront with an eheim 2217. I am very unhappy with the clarity of the water.

I want to add a second cannister to polish the water. I will probably use it with a skimmer attachment to improve the cleaning on the top of the tank.

I would welcome suggestions on a particular model.

I got a surface skimmer if you need one...someone was supposed to get it from me at the meeting...and either I forgot, or they forgot. I will bring it with to the auction, and either put it in the auction, or if you want it...just tell me.

IMO...on a 72g tank, you should use an Eheim 2217 with an Aquaclear 110. I love that combination of filtration.

What do you have in the canister?

Filter floss will help remove the smaller particles. If the water is just cloudy you might want to add carbon or purgien to polish the water.

i hate hob filters the are ugly and take up a bunch of room instead of a skimmer and another filter try a power head to create surface movement and a uv steralizer to clear up the water here are my suggestions for both

The Aqua Clear HOB's are really nice filters. I really like the 110's

I had a spare whisper 10-30 which I threw on there and it doesn't seem to be doing much better with that on there.

I don't have a carbon pad in there right now. My LFS said that carbon isn't necessarily a good idea.

I do weekly changes. About 25%.

I always do it on Friday.

My theory is that the cloudiness is caused by the "sheen" on the surface with my lights shining down through it. Plus I have the little white flakes floating in there.

sometimes, if your tank is not FULLY cycled the water can become cloudy after a water change...this used to happen to mine....i know yours is cycled but it is still a possibility...and its not from a sheen on the surface, i guarantee you that. If the water is cloudy, the water is cloudy. i used to think it was my lights and the surface too
