I have a fluval 404 (it's crap) and it has the intake and return built together, kinda like a hob, the return can be aimed 360ยบ. I've been trying diffrent thing and I was wondering which way I should point the return to get the most firtration? Should I have it pointed toward the front of the tank like a hob or running down the side?

put a few dead leaves in the tank so you can watch the water circulation.
If you have a "dead spot" where the leaves pile up, adjust your outlet to eliminate it.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

When I had the option I would put the intake in one corner and the return on the far side of the tank kind of pointed toward the front of the tank. It helps create a circular flow around the entire tank

Oh didnt see that never had a Fluval so sorry. I would trade it in for a wet/dry or Eheim. Seriously make it like the RR tanks and put the intake/return in a corner and point the return toward the other side of the tank with it kind of pointed toward the front glass. I currently do this on my 330 and it works great in circulating the water

I wish I could but the $$$$$ is kinda tight. I bought the fluval for $25, that is the only reason I have it instead of a 2217:?Originally posted by myjohnson View Postput that fluval in the trash and get an eheim.

IMO just try the set-up I mentioned and it should work.
