Has anyone used the Acid or Alkaline buffer by Seachem? I am interested in getting the Acid buffer since its supposed to lower pH and soften water by converting Carbonate to available CO2 which would in turn help my plants.

I used to use them for my B. Macrostoma.
I wouldn't count on it to provide your plants with a whole lot of CO2. It is always a good practice to pre-mix the water in a bucket or holding tank overnight to age it to allow the pH to stabilize before adding to your main tank. By then all the CO2 would have probably been de-gassed by your areation or mixing pump or whatever agitation.
Also, be careful to keep kH at least 3 or so. Otherwise you are going to have pH fluctuations that may kill fish. In my Mac tanks i used to have the pH @ 4.5 with a kH of 1-2. There would be a fluctuation between day and night in my planted tanks. The water also needed to be partially changed daily to prevent pH crashes.
good luck!
