At 12.5 cents per KWH I calculate $137.31 per month (Not including overworking the A/C system).

That's $1647.72 per year. Lots of cake folks....

If you think this hobby is expensive try doing saltwater.
It can double if not triple what your paying now.

          3 - Aquaclear 70 powerheads 20w

Now Peter should list what is kept on for how long each day like day lights and if any power heads are shut off during the night.
Peter, I came up with $143.72 a month. I know my total is slightly higher, possibly I calculated something at 24 hrs in stead of 8. Like you say, lotsa cake...I also calculated month at 30 days.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

Thanks Mark. I feel like the rewards of the hobby outweigh the money savings that I'd have.... usually. On the other hand, who knows what I'd be spending the extra coin on if not on fish and supplies....

Hey! Can someone PM me the formula you use to calculate all this so I can code it and add it to our Calculation and Converter page?

                      (X watts) * (Y hours run per day) * 30 days = monthly wattage.

divide that number by 1000 to get KWH per month

multipy that number by your rate (ex. $0.0125 per KWH)

                      THERE YA GO!

I was about to ask the same.. this puts his cost to be around 1.25c per KWH. I am paying 13.2c right now per KWH.. I would suspect 12.5c per kwh.. but I wanna hear it from Peter first :)
