  • is my stand still safe to use?!

well this tank was the tank i won at the auction like a month ago? i have it sittin in my room upstairs and i always thought bout how well the stand was built and if it was going to hold. its a really nice stand and i realise i never checked out how everything looked behind it. well anyway..like 5 minutes ago i decide to take off the middle magnetic panel and look at the legs holding up the stand. i then notice THIS!! its like something bit off part of the stand and now i am worried. i DO not want brackish water to flood my room. i would be killed if something like that would happened. here are some pictures and i was just wondering if i should leave it alone or do something about it??

    mannn..please help asap!

so that big chunk of missing wood wouldn't really matter? it should hold up everything correctly for a long time? anything i should look out for, like signs of my tank about to collapse?
*i dont know anything about building stands.

i shake it and its sturdy, so i dont think it will be anytime soon when it breaks anyway, but i really like the stand and wouldnt want to get rid of it thats why.

I dont want to laugh, but you should be able to put 150g tank on that stand.. it looks like its WAY over built. Yeah its going to hold your 29 for a VERY long time.

Just so you understand.. I have seen stands built from 2x4's that held TANKS on them. I have seen a 2x4 stand hold a 300g cube

the load is on top so all it does is transfer down to the floor

A stand leg is under compressive load. Woods are reasonably strong and stiff in that direction. As I remember ; second growth pine ,grade 2 or 3, which is what you have, has a compressive strength of 1000 to 2000 psi.
                    So a 2 X 4 design load would be about 5000 # (1.5 X 3.5 X 1000).
A grade 1 oak(eg) would be ten times stronger.
So strength of legs is typically never a concern. Problems are in the areas of stability and stiffness.
