There's a pond behind pappasitos on the south loop that's got a lot of these guys in it. fly fisherman I know have been snagging them while practicing.

I would think pleco would be really crunchy, but would scrape your mouth while you are chewing it.

Pretty good reading Semper. I am glad that they also pointed out other sources other than aquariums for invasion. Its beyond me why people would just dump exotic animals in our neighborhoods.

              yeah

several years back the chronicle had a front page article on this

i had kept it, but lost it when i moved

trying to find it online, but cant

maybe someone good at searching can find it

had pics of some rather huge plecos and the burrows, ie. devastation they incur on our local waterways

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

That is crazy! Yes, that's straight salt water there, sir. What did you catch it on?

Saw one the other day at Oyster Creek Park in Sugar Land. Big ole dude was munching the algae off a turtle..

I wonder if any one has caught a red tail catfish around here.....Ive heard rumors and stuff mostly on the buffalo bayou.....Ive heard people release all kind of stuff around here.....most of the time its beginners who just dont know what the hell their doing....so ive heard novices release angelfish, skirt tetras,oscars,convicts,mbunas.....its only a matter of time until we start catching some more tropical stuff.

I don't know where this is, but this video is incredible.

One day a year or so ago, I looked at the fish for sell at a PetSmart store. The majority of the fish grew to too large a size for the average aquarium. Why they put these fish on the market when there are equally beautiful alternatives that do not grow so large is beyond me. Even if I had wanted to buy a fish from there, they simply did not offer anything small enough for even my 75g tank.

Clown loaches are also a fish I cannot understand why it's so commonly offered. There are many excellent alternatives that do not grow so large. I had to look for a very long time to get a shoal of Zebra Loaches (Botia striata; found them at HAW), and while Fish Ranch II now has Dwarf Chain Loaches (Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki), when I bought mine a couple of years ago, they were no where to be found locally. I had to ship them in.

If nothing else, there should be some kind of warning required for these large fish, ensuring that people understand just how big they get and that releasing them in the wild is not a viable option. I think a lot of people do it because they don't know better.
