I keep a 55g drum of treated water in a corner with a small pump circulating / aeriating it and let it age a few days so that it it the same temp as all the tanks in my fish room.   Haven't had a mass fish loss since I started doing that.

There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
To much of some anti-chlor chemicals can kill you infusoria, daphnia & other tiny live foods.  
no food in the fry tank and a posssible ammonia spike.

I killed 6 chalinochromis brichardi's saturday because I forgot to add dechlorinator during my water change. It may not have been so bad but I changed about 25 gallons on a 30 gallon tank.

I only changed about 20 gallons of the 60.  I used dechlorinator but it was the cheap kind I bought at the grocery store that I've used a thousand times before.  On top of that my wife just called and said that the albino chocolate pleco I had in there is acting strange as well.  I'm just gonna get rid of what's in there and start over with something else.  If anyone wants them there is still a 4in bumblebee, a 3.5in albino red zebra(I think, pink with orangeish-reddish fins) and a 3in male kenyi along with a 3inch common pleco.  There's also a 5inch dinosaur bichir in there but I'm keepin him.  I'll sell em all for 10 bucks or 5 if you bring a water testing kit to help me figure out what the heck is wrong in there.  Anybody?

I bought them from Rob(jughead) a member here. The sad part is that his male killed his female so I don't think he has anymore. I hope I can find more in the future.

Just took a sample of my water to the local petsmart.  The guy said that the chlorine levels were pretty high.  I bought some more dechlorinator and water conditioner and treated the tank again.  The albino chocolate pleco didn't die, it was just laying next to the dead acei.  Everyone else looks great, my 3 remaining cichlids, the gold gourami the bichir and the two little plecos are eating and swinning around really well.  I still think I'm gonna get rid of the Africans and make a different tank though.  Thanks for all the help Fishbox.  I haven't gotten any bad info here yet.

Switch to a different water conditioner.

I like Kordon's Amquel+plus myself but Seachem Prime is decent too.

Sorry for your loss.  I've never had a problem with water change before.  I only changed 20%-25% of the water and dechlorinated the water in 5 gallons water bottle before I put it in the tank.  I also added 1 table spoon of aquarium salt for each 5 gallons of the new water.

Check your tap water for nitrites...and don't trust the person at Petsmart to test it for you. Test it yourself to be sure.

I personally don't like the way the water tastes here in the city.  I used to live further out in Montgomery Co. where we had well water and it always tasted great.

+1 i hate city tap. i have some friends that live out in magnolia, they have well water, and it tastes so fresh, crisp, and clean
