Spathodus and eremodus

So things didn't go as planned with my 90 and I'm having to just keep my biocube but, I just remembered I had a custom sized tank in storage. (46 gallons) and figured I'd set that up for the next best thing, a pair of spathodus or eremodus! I have a general idea on how to care for them but, I'd like to breed them as well. any tips on this matter?

Are you getting a pair or getting a group and let them pair up?

more then likely a group. I don't se myself lucking out with a pair on the get go.

It is recommended to get a group of 6 and let them pair up. If you are lucky, you will get 2 pairs or even 3 pairs out of them. Once they pair up, remove the other or they will be killed. Set up 2 distinctive rock piles on each end of the tank as they are rock dweller.

How many pair do you think would be ok in the tank? the lengjt is 3 ft and the width is just a lil under 2ft.

Once they start breeding, you can only house 1 pair in the tank that size.

ah ok, should I let them hold and let the female learn on her own how to hold the eggs or should I strip her?

One interesting fact about Eretmodus is they are bi-parental mouth brooder. Female will hold eggs for 10 days then pass them on to male. The male will incubate the eggs for another 10 days. You can strip the male 15 days after spawning.

If you don't like stripping him, you can move them to a separate breeding tank and let him hold to full term. He will eventually spit the fry, then you can move him back to his tank.
