Thank you for such a thorough reply. I didn't know for sure, but I thought they looked a bit rough. Poor babies, I hope they get a great home.

The sales guy told me he sold some the night before so that left those 2. Good question. When I see large adult fish I wonder if they aren't someone's retired breeders. Those fish are probably old and looked a little worn out. They have been through some difficult times lately! When I am looking for breeders I look for fish that have not reached their adult size yet. This way I know I have a young fish. Those 2 acaras would make nice pets but I think they would not be good breeders. Another aspect to it is that the chances of getting comparable males to pair up with those 2 females is pretty slim. But if I was looking for some cool fish for my s/a tank I would strongly consider those 2. I think they would look better in a few weeks of a well balanced peaceful environment.

Even though I didn't buy any fish, it is always enjoyable to go to city pets.

Very good point!

Side note: that is why I feel hesitated to buy wc fish because I don't know how old they are. LOL. Besides you have to pay a lot more for them.

I haven't completely written them off my list, but I do prefer a smaller adult size. I hope yours have a long, healthy life for you to enjoy.

Ummmmm, maybe 4-6" ?? I was looking at how chubby they were more than anything. I was really surprised. I guess I expected them to be more torpedo shaped like my acei.

How many inches long were they? They do get kind of chubby.

That's a good distance for sure but nothing like good ole country living . They're in the tanks close to the saltwater ones. Even though they're a pretty new fish to me I recognized the big ones immediately.
