Stress mainly. I have a smaller WC moba momma that gulps air at the surface. It flares her gills and makes her look larger than she is to the other females. She gets it about for about 2 weeks every other month. She spawns well too.

With good frequent water changes and good food, they will be back to 100% soon. I'd say about 2-3 mos max.

Feed them Hikari frozen krill and mysis. NLS Thera A in 3mm size is good. I feed mine a mixture of the NLS and 3 Dainichi foods--ultima, supreme and color fx.

Consider adding baking soda, Epsom salt and Instant Ocean at every weekly water change. For every 90g I change weekly in my 180g tank I add 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of Instant Ocean and 3/4 cup of Epsom salt. Baking soda for the pH, IO for scrapes and to thicken their protective slime coat and Epsom salt for their digestive system and parasites.

Oh, and they're eating frozen mysis by Piscine Energetics. That's probably my favorite brand of frozen food... Captured from freshwater glacial lakes and flash frozen immediately. Great quality.
