Tank looks good. If you want to speed up cycle time, I have had good experiences with Seachem's Stability. I once added 35+ WC Trophs to a one day old tank and used Stability without any problems/fatalities. I did do two partial water changes for the first week, so that may have helped as well? IDK, it worked for me more than once.

LoL, I do a lot of reading and not afraid to test things to know for myself when I don't agree with something or it just seems too "safe" so to speak.

Krylon fushion spray paint can be used for aquariums but make sure you allow it to completely dry for 24-48hrs. With your overflow, paint the inside and it will give it a nicer look with the clear acrylic and black backing.

Does it matter if I have my heater in the wet dry or should I have it in the tank?

Apparently all and any have the chance of interbreeding.

The two listed I personally would not put together.
