My Ornate chewed the back legs off a mud turtle its own size and did not drown it. When they decide to eat they can eat... I know a few folk at ADG that stock for big tang tanks use them as population control in hard to access tanks...In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I needed to starve mine for a few days and then offer prey to get it hunting. Otherwise its a lazy opportunistic hunter and seems to feed mainly at night or at least when I was not watching. I remember it eating everything in that tank, shovelnose catfish, silver arowanas, cichlids, malawis, giant danios, even chewed up a 5" bristlenose and 6" striped Raphael. It was over 16" when a heater crashed during winter and I lost it...In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
