I have a Blueberry that has been acting strange lately. He is a mature male probably about 4-5" and he constantly chases a couple of the other fish around primarily my Socolofi and another. My question is would he chase a female around the tank and then begin to shake when he is next to one. I ask this because the other fish that he chases around is what I think is a female Johannii. I have noticed that he does the above mentioned actions only to the Johannii, so is this a sign that he wants to mate?

    Thanks

      Re: Attitude

So I probably would be correct in assuming that the unknown fish is probably a female.

        Re: Attitude

Could be a show of dominance too, I've had females do it to each other.

Catch him/her and check the sizes if it's vents.  I have a female Sunshine peacock that is meaner than some of my males.  It takes a REALLY dominant male to breed with her.  But I have 30 quarter of an inch babies right now if anybody wants them....LOL!!!!

Yes in Bettas the shimmy / Flare takes two forms
The male will dash up and extend his fins to their max in an attempt to chase the other betta away. (flex their mussels)
Other males will extend their fins and flare in a challange or retreat.
Females will take a slight head down position and shimmy or retreat.
If the other male or unwanted female doesn't retreat then he starts takeing chunks out of them.
However if He likes the female, he will flare / shimmy again and run back to his nest, inviting her to join him.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
