This is "green water". First of all, it is NOT harmful to your fish. So don't worry there. Second of all, it will go away all on its own. It is horrible to look at, but it will go away all on its own in 2-3 weeks. I know, that's a looooong time to wait when all you want to do is see your beautiful fish, but green water clears up just like magic all on its own without you doing a thing.

If you want to clear it up faster, add a UV Sterilizer to the tank.

Water changes will not help. In fact, it can make it bloom even more. The best thing to do is maintain your normal water changes as if the green water wasn't there.

Do NOT use an algaecide. Those do far more harm than good, and in this case, because the algae is completely benign, there is no need to use them.

Sorry it's happening. It happens at times to people with planted tanks. I'll have to look up the cause as I don't remember off the top of my head. But I mainly wanted to let you know that it is harmless and goes away on its own so you didn't worry.

You have serious algae problems. 80% water change and algae destroyer. Following the instructions on the bottle. And perform water changes like it says to.

Do the algae-cides stress the fish out at all? Again, I don't know that that is what it is, but it does seem to have a slight green tinge (maybe just the mosses' color radiating out and playing tricks?)

You could be very right on the eyes seeing what's not really there.

I'm using two Fluval 405s for filtration: One has >[Carbon][Carbon][Biomedia][Biomedia]>, the other has >[Purigen][Biomedia][Biomedia][Filter Floss]>.

So yeah, I have carbon in one of the filters, but its not the only media.
