The wood may have been sand blasted but wood can absorb contaminates and hold them for years. But growing them up will help.

But I don't know why my white clouds are now acting weird. They appear to be as they are when they're sleeping, but they're like this 24-7.

There may be a contaminant, but what would show up more than 2 months after being in the tank? The manzanita is from HAW and is sandblasted... plecos love chewing on it and they're doing fine... The smooth river rocks are from FG. The sand is CaribSea. The circ pumps are Koralia and were rinsed before being put in there. Shells are from Sunny's tank. I really don't know what's causing a problem, or even how to test for it. Even if there is a contaminant that isn't removed by carbon, how do I find out?

Hehe you guys are awesome. Thanks for the support. I want to do the comps again if the seller grows them out a bit. We'll see.

My last compressiceps is not looking as bad as the others did, but won't come out of this one spot in the rocks and still looks like she's breathing a little faster. Now the golden white clouds are acting up and not eating, and they spend most of their time just huddled together and hanging under the water surface, not moving much unless I walk by, not eating. I don't know what's doing this to them. They've spent over a month in the tank and did fine. I'm wondering if the dying comps have stressed out the white clouds. Even doing a water change hasn't helped. I check parameters and temp daily, and all have been pristine. Just don't know what's going on for sure, which is maddening.

These are a gorgeous little tang.
Don't let this discourage you from them, treat it as a tough lesson learned and know you did all you could and move forward on this setup.
Its a great tank and I think if he's willing to grow out a trio I would give them another shot.

+10 on that. Just wish it didn't hurt the pocket book so much sometimes.

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like you did all you could for the little ones. Definitely don't give up. We've all had our setbacks--we learn from them and move forward.

I don't think you should give up on them just yet, you gotta at least give it another try!
