salt used in peacock tank

I just aquired a group of regal peacock fry from my brother. He did not have the room for them so now there in my 75g. questions was is salt ok to use with my fry? And if so what is recomended to use? I know some cichlids do good in salt. And I heard adding salt to water raises Ph is that true?

i've seen people use sea salt mix as a buffer (raise ph) . if your talking about aquarium salt dont waste your time with it.

No not aquarium salt I mean sea salt would sea salt be good to use? That's want I want to use it for as a ph buffer would it also be good for the health of the fish?

I think RonR here on hfb used this recipe with his moba frontosa colony with good results.

Your water should be fine . I wouldn't messed with it ......it's just an added unneccessary chore . I bred peacocks for years and they bred like rabbits on Viagra in regular Houston water .

yeah I mean there doing fine from what I can see they eat like crazy I'm feeding nls I'm just having a low pH problem rite now but it don't seem to affect them I was just curious bout using salt as a buffer

What PH do you have now ? I live about 10 minutes from your location and my PH is about 7.8 .

when I tested it the othe day it was around 6.8 but idk how accurate that is cuz all I'm using is test strips

Test strips can be inaccurate. Your water tests will be much more accurate with a Freshwater Master Test Kit by A.P. It's likely that your tap ph is similar to Dave's.

Yeah that's what I figured it might just be an inaccurate reading. I will invest in a master test kit soon.

i just use 1 tbl spoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons, when i had it tested at petsmart with teststrips it was at 8.something
