At first, I shared the same thought as you and agree they are not much for eye candy - but after seeing them in person, they really do look 100x's better. These pics Thai shot don't do them justice. No flash. There is a wireless sensor on the flash that needs to point at the camera to read when to go off.
I was being lazy....plus I think I was to drunk to remove it myself.I ate my fish that died.

They look just like black trophs to me. Is the rarity factor the main thing that people find attractive about this variant? I find most other variants more interesting than this one. I've had trophs, but I'm not a troph person.
