  • Red Jewels and convicts?

I love convicts, I love red jewels and I'm soon to get a new tank. My interest in cockatoo cichlids are my fallback plan but I think convicts and jewels would make a wonderful color variation.

Would these two beauties go together? Maybe a small harem of Jewels and a female convict or two?

I've kept them together before but will say that once the convicts breed it's game over for anything else in the tank if it's not big enough.

Alright! Thanks. I am looking for a 30-45 gallon hex or oct. I have 8 or so jewel fry that I rescued from a tank crash and 1 convict. I think that might be the only convict I keep. Can you keep them with peacocks as well?

Convicts can do fine in most cichlid tanks if you keep a single sex (all males or all females). It is when they breed that they become extremely aggressive. They tend to hold thier own well in tank with semi to a bit more aggressive fish.

That's gonna be a small tank for those fish cause they are quite territorial.

Oh, I was only going to keep 3 of the jewels, a male and 2 females and maybe two convicts. I don't have much more space as I'm confined to my room for my fish so I'm confined to smaller tanks, unfortunately.
