Not sure why you consider a tunze 6100 an upgrade from a vortech. If I'm correct, the vortech has a wider flow and smaller internal footprint. The Tunze has a narrow stream and larger internal footprint.

I wish there was a tunze that had the vortech's internal footprint and power for it's size.

it was a joke, i have 20 gks right now, i plan on adding about 15-20 more fry, growing them all out to venting size, and culling all but 2 or 3 males, i will have 20 when all said and done.lol

like if i have 1x fx5 and 1x 2217 that will bug me.

plus i plan on having atleast 25-30 adult trophs in my 75g.
so 30 adult golden kasumbas is going to require some good filtration.

i figure 2x fx5's is what i will go with.

i might just go ahead and mod my k4 which will make it push out 3000+ gph.

I love our FX5s. We have 5 of them on various tanks throughout the house. You can find them New on Ebay for $200 or less (that's shipping included). Keep in mind that the 935 flow rate is based on an empty canister. Once you add your media, it'll decrease some. But still a monster of a filter, IMO.

The MP40's are a great product from what I have seen. I don't own them and was doing alot of research on them for my 180g moba tank that's 2 foot longer than your 75g. Go to reefcentral's website and in the sponsor section you can ask the Eco folks about your idea and application.

I do use 2 6080 tunze streams and think tunze makes a great product. Had them for about 5 years now with no problems. You cannot turn these big boys on and off without at least a 60 minute rest between cycles. Others you can use a controller to make current and even waves which is what I wanted to do to help keep my sand spotless.

I have 2 2217 eheims on my 180g and they do the job very well. I bought them back in 1988 and have changed impellors on them 1x or 2x......very reliable cannister filter. When I go with a bigger tank I was thinking about going the sump route, but like you, I know somehow I would mess it up and dump tons of water in my den. Wifey would kill me.

I saw Tim's new set up a few weeks ago and he had a combination sump and large eheim cannister filter. I really liked that combination, maybe even going with 2 of the largest eheims on a 400g AGE dream tank. Only thing about not going the sump route is having to have heaters and other equipment inside the tank vs in the sump.

Reefcentral has lots of 75g users so check out who might be using the MP40's or a smaller MP20. I hear they require a little more maintenance and you may have to replace the wet and dry sides. They have some MP40's (or the smaller version, not sure) over at Fish Gallery off Kirby and 1 is super quiet and the other one is louder. They do keep your tank cooler since the motor is outside the tank.

Tunze motors are inside the tank and can cause more heat, warmer water. Both have their +'s and -'s like most things.

but not sure if i want 2 now that im hearing you keeping a 180g clean with mobas with just 2x 2217's.

i may just get 1x fx5 and keep 1x 2217 for polishing.

i would, but i cant until i move out, which will be a while, i am finishing my aas in engineering.
so my parents wont let me get anymore tanks.

so i am stuck with my 75g.

I agree, get a bigger tank instead of MP40s. Your fish would be a lot happier with more room to swim than a tidal wave.

i would love to, but they are just so dang exoensive!
a new one is like $350-400 without media which is like another $100.
heck, i can get 2x fx5's for that.
