Have you thought about a used camera? I would suggest an older version metal body digital SLR camera that fits in your hands and is easy for you to operate. The metal bodied cameras are usually the higher end professional cameras. Then put your money into the best name brand lens that you can afford. The crispness/ sharpness of the image is from the optics! sunrise

I loved my D40x, all my pics before the last couple of days were using that camera. I wanted the D90 because I have 2 lenses that wouldn't autofocus on the D40x, and will on the D90. That's really the only reason I wanted to upgrade. We went to look at a new macro lens that would autofocus on my D40x, and they wanted $1000 just for the lens. OR I could get the D90 'kit' for less and use my existing macro lens. It just made sense.

I think the Canon at that same level wins. I looked in to them. I thought the d90 was worth the extra coin and wins over the canon....for reasons stated above.

Nikon entry level camera right now are booboo.

A lot of bad reviews. I went to the store and picked it up and messed with it a little.

It's cheap but not worth it man.

If you get Nikon but don't want to spend the money on the D90 then get an older model like the nikon d40.

The new nikon macro lens, 60mm/2.8, has built in AS motor so you basically got all you need for fish pictures.

Only down side is no wireless flash. Flash from the top coming down makes all the difference I think.

Canon has better enter level stuff. Personally, I picked Nikon over canon only b/c of the wireless flash and what I wanted to do with my camera.

Canon does have wireless flash but you have to buy extra stuff....which is not cheap. Nikon camera with CLS has built in wifeless flash capabilities.

I think you can get a camera at that price but not with a marco lens. You can get a body only and get a prime lens if the camera is mainly for taking pictures of fishes.

I would go Nikon w/ CLS if you want to go with wireless flash....but this is not going to be the entry level stuff.

If you want entry level, I would go canon over Nikon.
