I think you picked a good camera.
Again, the glass is where the cash goes.
Bodies depreciate in value....no matter which one you get.
If you know how to use your T1i, you will punk a noob with a 50d....I'll put cash on that everyday of the week.I ate my fish that died.

I think the t1i is a great camera. But it's not the same as a 50d. That being said a noob w/50d will crank out the same pictures as a noob w/t1i. But a pro w/50d will have better pictures than a pro w/t1i
IMHO

I still rather invest in the glass.
Nothing like a clean macro prime lens.
I just bought a f1.8 50mm and already wish I'd gone ahead and spent the cash on the f1.2. Mainly for the build quality. Not that the f1.8 dosent take incrediable pictures, it's just the auto focus is loud an slow. So I have to do it myself. Which is hard when taking pictures free hand. And no IS (or for you nikon fans VR) that's the worst. Always pay for IS it's worth it.

I tried some VR lens my brother had. I didn't really think it had to big of a difference.
I just keep the shutter speed as high as I can...mostly around 200 cause I use wireless flash (higher if I can use other lighting over the tank).I ate my fish that died.
