As promised. Here's a noobs first try at a DSLR camera. Wish I had my prime lens and wireless flash already.

This was on auto. Next step is to figure out what's the best sitting for pictures under my lighting condition and lens.

      maaaan! love them 'fubu's!

the rocks in the namansi tank really accent their color.

Yeah, I need a prime lens. The pictures are so much sharper with those types.

I'm sure there is a way to get it sharper with the lens I got. I just need to know how to use the manual settings.

Have not placed the order yet, but I will soon.

            Thinking nikkor 60/2.8 or the 105/2.8. But that's $600 vs. $900.

So I'm thinking more about getting the 60/2.8 and get a sb 600 as the slave flash.

myjohnson - Did your Nikon come with the free DVD's? Mine came with two when I got it and they were really helpful. I would be willing to loan them to you if you are interested.

Also, Wolfe Camera offers some classes which you might be able to get for free.

My suggestions would be to use really good room lighting and / or tank lighting rather than a flash. This will make it easier to focus your shots and help to avoid glare or wash out. Use a tripod for added stability and clearer pictures.

The auto feature works remarkably well but you will do better with the manual settings (after you figure out how to use them properly).

150 gallon - my African cichlid monster tank (I know it isn't a big as yours)
17 gallon - Threadfin rainbows and corys lightly planted
5 gallon - planted red cherry shrimp breeder
3 gallon - planted red cherry shrimp breeder

I didn't realize that lens was now so expensive also. All Nikkors Lenses went up this year due to the value of the dollar. It's one reason I went on a lenses buying spree last year. Those same two lenses are now about $500 more each than last year (and they are the same lenses - no updates)

Yeah you told me about them when I talked to you last.

Don't mine buying some used lens if it got warranty and works fine!

                                The gifts just keep coming.

My brother is also giving me a nikkor 50mm/1.8.

Can't want to see this prime lens in action. The review on it are really good.

Pictures are very sharpe and the AF works very fast too.
