  • Frusterdated's Electric Blue Acara Fry

Frusterdated bought 2 electric blue acaras 2 weeks ago or so and a few days later they spawned. I am raising those fry and here are a few pics of them. They are about 9 days old now. They are feeding well on live and decapsulated brine shrimp. I estimate about 40 fry. These are cell phone pics so quality not very good.

I will keep you posted on their progress. Next milestone is when they start eating flake food.

Most of the time we don't get lucky like Frusterdated did! If I am trying to create a breeding pair and male and female aren't easy to tell, I will buy at least 4 but chances of course increase as you add more.

The babies are barely 1/4 inch and I can see the blue color already. I think my cell phone camera won't show it but I will try later to get pics that show the blue. They are regularly eating daphnia, newly hatched brine shrimp, half grown brine shrimp, and flake food.

Update. Babies are now 33 days old and wearing their electric blue suits! They are eating brine shrimp, daphnia and flake food and seem to be having a fun time eating off of the foam filter. They are sharing their 10 gallon tank with a few corys. Here are a few pics. They are not very good. I need to find out what kind of camera is good for taking these kind of pics. I know about fish breeding but don't know much about picture taking!

Update on frusterdated's electric blue acaras

It has been almost a month but here is the latest update on Frusterdated's Electric Blue Acaras. They are all doing well and eating anything I offer them. They are now about 1/2 inch. It seems like it takes the fry forever to grow sometimes. I took a few pics and this one is the best although I know it is not very good. But you can see the blue covering most of the body. I assume a trait like the electric blue coloration is recessive and so I expected to have at least a few fry that have normal coloration. But, it looks like all of them have the electric blue. Maybe the electric blue acara does not even carry a gene for the normal coloration. So as long as both parents are electric blue, then all of the offspring will also be electric blue. I am learning! I just started a 100 gallon stock tank of daphnia outdoors so I should soon have a strong supply of daphnia for the fry. I think they will grow faster on a live food diet.

1/2" for 1 month is pretty fast growing IMO.

You are right Ptran. It only seems slow because I want them to grow fast. Your big guy (girl?) and the prospective mate are still courting I guess. They have one end of a 100 gallon tank and 10 other severums have the other end. I need more big tanks!

LOL ain't we all on big tanks?

I don't remember how long since you bought that gold severum from me. Thought they would have been breeding like rabbit by now.
