  • Fluval 406 Troubleshooting

    Hello fellow Houstonians,

I’ve got a predicament with my canister filter (Fluval 406) and was wondering if I could get some advice. So I’ve had this filter for about 6 years, replaced the motor head (top part) about 3 years ago. The problem I’m having is the output flow seems to be restricted but I can’t figure out what’s causing it. So far I’ve tried replacing the top o-ring to rule out an air leak, rinsed the media sponges and media baskets, and checked the intake for any kind of blockages; all yielding no success. At this point I’d guess that the motor is starting to go out but I’d like to be sure before spending the cash on a new one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Did you check the impeller?

Yeah there's nothing stopping it up or anything. I don't know what else to check for with the impeller.

Happened to mine, turned out I don’t have the top cover on the media tray, the pump sucking up my media and blocking some flows. So I let the top layer tray empty and it works perfect now.
