  • Texas Cichlid

    Hello,
I am new to HoustonFishBox and I live in Seattle.
Looking for info on Texas Cichlids. I am looking for where to catch some. When they spawn. Are there different geographical colorations. If anyone is keeping them. Etc
    Thanks

I had several Texas Cichlids for a while. My first one I bought from a member on this forum and then another member helped me find some in a creek near Cypress, TX. It's just outside Houston. I really liked them but decided to try other species after a while. They ate pretty much anything I threw in the tank. I never got them to spawn but I figure that was my lack of effort/ knowledge/ habits. I've seen several post over the years where people have found them in different ponds and streams. They tend to change color based on the substrate they are over. Most of the time mine were that dark color with the blueish spots. They will turn a white and black color during the spawn. A couple years ago one member posted an awesome video of a pair after a spawn. I think it was in the Frio River...maybe
